Advertising Research

Marketing campaigns have been for a long time an important source of revenue for advertisers and an important way to increase awareness about a certain product, service or idea. There is no better way to sell a product or to convince someone to adhere to a certain ideology and this has led to an increasing popularity of this mean of transmitting messages. Although everyone has been surrounded by advertisements not many people know that behind them there is a lot of work and many techniques aimed at coming up with the best strategy that would persuade a larger or smaller category of individuals, depending on the actual aim and targets of the advert.

The marketing culture has certainly evolved around the consumers and marketers. In order to be able to sell a product, companies must first determine what types of products people are interested in and more exactly on what they are more likely to look for in that product. However, advertising is not so much about the product itself as it is about the words and images chosen to represent that product or idea. Advertising research has been mainly focused on finding differences in terms of interpretations of messages from a gender point of view. It has been shown that women and men interpret messages in different ways and this has led to adopting certain advertising techniques and strategies when it comes to presenting something. This is why, one of the main principles on which advertising functions is that one must first identify the audience and then create the message.

In the world of online advertising things are a bit different. Since the internet is able to provide so many potential readers, advertisers are not that much concerned with the gender of the reader or viewer. However, even in web advertising messages that are made for certain audiences are considered more efficient than those that are targeted at a large mass.
